Samsung is now well in the groove of releasing its Galaxy S phones in the first quarter of the year, usually landing on a date either side of Mobile World Congress. The company deems it better to have a standalone event of its own to soak up the press coverage rather than compete with other MWC launches.
Reliable Samsung leaker Ice Universe has suggested on Twitter that the Galaxy S11 Unpacked event will be held on 18 February. Of course this is all unconfirmed, but they also suggest the event will see the unveiling of a second Galaxy Fold device (earlier than anticipated):
Rumors: Samsung Electronics is tentatively launching the Galaxy S11 series and clamshell foldable phones in San Francisco, USA on February 18, 2020.— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 11, 2019
Ice Universe does not reference the Fold by name, instead pointing to the clamshell, flip phone style foldables that Samsung has already teased are in production when it showcased its latest version of One UI, its Android skin for Android 10.
The Galaxy Fold 2, if it is called that, will likely bear a closer resemblance to the new Mororola Razr than the book-like original Fold.
The Galaxy S11 meanwhile has leaked several times, though renders are most likely not completely accurate. It seems as though the S line will adopt the Note 10’s central front-facing camera and gain four or five rear cameras in a long rectangular module.
