The foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is one of the most exciting smartphones to grace storefronts in 2021, offering a portable smartphone form factor that folds out to something resembling a tablet, with huge improvements to durability, performance and overall quality compared to earlier iterations of the foldable tech.
The only real barrier is the price tag, starting at $1,799 in the US, but a Black Friday deal from Best Buy changes that – and throws in an extra freebie too.
For a limited time, Best Buy has slashed $400 off the carrier-unlocked Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 with 256GB of storage, bringing it down to a much more tempting – but still expensive - $1,399.99. To sweeten the deal even further, the retailer is also throwing in a free pair of Galaxy Buds 2, the company’s flagship true wireless earbuds.
The discount is available on all three colour options while stock lasts, and if you want to splash out even more, the $400 discount also applies to the 512GB model at a reduced $1,499.99.
If it sells out at Best Buy, US customers can get a slightly smaller $300 discount from Amazon on both the 256GB and 512GB options, which is also bundling the Galaxy Buds 2. The deal outdoes the $250 discount from Samsung itself where you can also bag free Galaxy Buds 2.
In our four-star Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 review, we described the smartphone as a "worthwhile refinement on an industry-defining foldable that showcases the company’s willingness to innovate on all fronts" and was impressed by the quality of the foldable display, the improved design, the consistency of the cameras and just how productive you can be using it.
It's not perfect – the under-display camera is a little lacklustre, the form factor can be cumbersome and it’s still more delicate than a standard smartphone – but if you’ve been waiting for foldable tech to mature before investing, now’s the time to take the plunge.
