When is the Serious Sam 4 release date?
First things first, when are we going to be able to play the latest game in the Serious Sam series? The reveal of Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass came as a surprise to many fans, especially considering it was announced during the opening keynote of Reboot Develop 2018, and not a consumer-focused event like E3.
Developers Croteam showcased a short teaser video (viewable at the top of this page) and confirmed that more details would be available at E3 2018 – more specifically, during publisher Devolver Digital’s game-focused presentation. Though the presentation provided more detail about the game, sadly, a release date wasn't announced.
What platforms will it be available on?\
Serious Sam 4 is set to be available not only on the PC, but the PS4 and Xbox One too. There's no word on Switch support but we imagine it'll come post-launch, if it ever does appear.
What can I expect from Serious Sam 4 gameplay?
Will Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass completely reimagine the franchise, or should we expect much of the same crazy, over-the-top action we’ve grown to love over the years? While no-one can say for sure, the teaser trailer at the top of this page seems to showcase some long-time Serious Sam enemies making an appearance – namely the headless enemies that explode when they get near you.
This seems to be confirmed by the (little) information found on the Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass Steam listing. Per the page, the game is set to feature “world-renowned signature Serious Sam gameplay on a brutally bigger scale, and not a single desert level”. The listing also claims the Serious Sam 4 will reignite the series, taking us on an adventure “full of bullets, guts and one-liners”.
At E3 2018, CroTeam also confirmed that the game will feature a variety of vehicles, weapons and most importantly, enemies. You'll also be reunited with companions from previous games including Rodriguez and Jones Hellfire, and unlike in earlier games, they'll actually help out in those over-the-top cutscenes instead of letting Sam do all the work.
“The game is still a linear experience, but using new Croteam-developed engine tech, the game has expanded to much, muuuuuch bigger environments with legions (no, dude, legions) of enemies you’ll have to wipe out with a variety of insane weaponry,” Croteam said in a statement.
As with the above sections, we expect to learn more in the coming weeks and months, and will update this section accordingly.
