It’s been a while since season 4 of Young Justice was confirmed, with Covid and other factors causing a sizeable delay since the announcement back in 2019.

But the wait should soon be over, as the animated adventures of DC’s junior superheroes returns to our screens. Here’s all we know so far about Young Justice season 4.

When is the release date for Young Justice Season 4?

There's no official date yet, but many sites are predicting the end of 2021 or early in 2022. This is mainly due to posts online from the series’ writer/creator Greg Weisman who responded to a fan enquiry in March 2021 about the status of the new season:

This follows on from a post back in November 2020 where he stated that all of the show’s 26 scripts had been finished, with the vast majority of them already fully recorded by the cast.

Put these together and it’s clear that the new series is progressing well and should hopefully appear in the rumoured timeslot.

What is the story of Young Justice Season 4?

The storyline for season 4 is still a mystery, with the creators keeping things very close to their chests. One clue we do have is the name: Young Justice: Phantoms. So, does this bring a supernatural element or does it refer to characters who appeared to have died in previous series? Then there’s also the fact that at the end of series 3 we saw an indication that the Legion of Superheroes could be about to make an entrance.

This alternative super-team have already made appearances in Supergirl and Smallville, but it would be the first time they turn up in Young Justice. They’re perfectly suited, as they comprise a team of teenage superheroes that are connected to the Superman lineage. The interesting part is that they are time travellers from 1,000 years in the future, which should bring with it plenty of scope for new storylines as well as a bit of humour.

Who are the cast and crew of Young Justice season 4?

There’s been no official word on whether the cast will remain the same as previous series, but we think it’s a safe bet. If so, this is how they should line up:

  • Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing – Jesse McCartney
  • M’gann M’orzz/Miss Martian – Danica Mckellar
  • Conner Kent/Superboy – Nolan North
  • Kaldur’ahm/Aqualad – Khary Payton
  • Artemis Crock/Tigress – Stephanie Lemelin
  • Violet Harper/Halo – Zehra Fazal
  • Victor Stone/Cyborg – Zeno Robinson
  • Brion Markov/Geo-Force – Troy Baker
  • Bruce Wayne/Batman – Bruce Greenwood
  • Wally West/The Flash – Jason Spisak
  • Roy Harper/Red Arrow – Crispin Freeman

The bulk of writing will continue to be the province of Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti, with Melchoir Zwyer and Christopher Berkely likely to return as directors.

Where can I watch Young Justice Season 4?

Young Justice has been leading something of a nomadic lifestyle over its past seasons. Initially airing on the Cartoon Network, it moved to DC Universe for season 3 but is now coming the HBO Max for season 4. This means it will join the likes of other DC series such as Pennyworth, Justice League Dark, Constantine, Peacemaker, Gotham PD and several others on the streaming platform.

You’ll need a subscription to watch HBO Max in the USA, while those in the UK may find that the shows appear on Sky or Now TV instead. If you want to go direct to the source though, you can always take a look at how to watch HBO Max outside the US.
