The old cartoon revivals just keep on coming, and Rugrats is the latest show to be confirmed to make a return.
Tommy and the gang will all be back – but they’ll look a little different than when we last saw them. Rather than the traditional 2D style, the series will be CG-animated. If you’re intrigued, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the Rugrats revival.
Rugrats reboot release date
Rugrats will be releasing sometime in 2021 according to Variety. We don’t know the exact date yet – once we hear more, we’ll update this article.

Nickelodeon released a first look at the show on Twitter which you can watch below:
Cast and crew
Fans of the original series will be pleased to hear that the cast members from the 2D show will be reprising their roles. Here’s who will be starring in the Rugrats reboot:
- E.G. Daily as Tommy
- Nancy Cartwright as Chuckie
- Cheryl Chase as Angelica
- Cree Summer as Susie
- Kath Soucie as Phil and Lil
The voice actors for the parents haven’t yet been confirmed.
Behind the camera, Eryk Casemiro and Kate Boutilier will act as executive producers, Dave Pressler and Casey Leonard will be co-executive producers and Rachel Lipman will be a co-producer. Mollie Freilich will be overseeing the production – she is the senior manager of current series animation at Nickelodeon.
Rugrats reboot plot
The official synopsis for the show says that the Rugrats show will follow the babies as “they explore the world and beyond from their pint-sized and wildly imaginative point-of-view.”
We imagine that there will be entirely new plot lines to what was seen in the original cartoon.
How to watch the Rugrats reboot
The Rugrats reboot was announced for Paramount Plus. If you don’t know already, Paramount Plus will be a rebrand of the current streaming service, CBS All Access. The rebrand will happen on 4 March 2021 and will bring new original content to the streaming platform from Viacom and CBS.
Sadly, Paramount+ will only be available in the US, Canada and Latin America – with the Nordics and Australia also getting the service soon after. The UK hasn’t yet been confirmed to get the service – however we do currently have a method for watching CBS All Access/Paramount Plus in the UK.
The show may also be syndicated on other UK channels/streaming services - once we know more we'll update this article.
