Disney Plus is getting a slate of original scripted UK productions – one for the standard Disney+ library and two for the Star sub-section on the platform, which hosts more adult-oriented shows such as Atlanta and The X-Files.

The three new productions include a family adventure series, a heist drama, and a anti-superhero comedy. The scripted shows will join the first British Disney+ unscripted series, Save Our Squad, which follows David Beckham as he coaches a young football team who are in need of improvements.

We don’t know yet when these productions will debut on Disney+, just that they’re in the works right now. The three shows coming to Disney+ are:

The Ballad of Renegade Nell

From BAFTA Award-winning writer Sally Wainwright comes a family adventure series set in 18th century Europe for Disney+. The series follows Nell Jackson, a woman who, alongside her two sisters, is framed for murder. To make ends meet, she turns to a life of highway robbery. However, when she meets a little spirit called Billy Blind, she realises that fate has a lot more in store for her.

Culprits is a dark comedy thriller series for Star and is created by filmmaker J Blakeson and is executively produced by Stephen Garrett (The Night Manager) and produced by Morenike Williams (Killing Eve). After a heist, the crew have all gone their separate ways. However, they soon discover that they are being hunted and murdered one by one.

Industry newcomer Emma Moran brings this comedy ‘anti-superhero’ show to Star. Young woman Jen lives in a world where everyone has a superpower... except her. The show is about embracing your ‘okay-ness’, and emphasises why it's perfectly fine to be normal.

These shows will join ten other European originals announced for Star during the Disney Investor Day back in January. So far, most Disney originals have been based on existing franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar. Disney is now taking strides to diversify its pool of original content to challenge the likes of Netflix in the future.
