There are usually a few things you can guarantee around Christmas. Lots of great food, spending time with loved ones and watching a great movie or TV show are some of the first that come to mind. 

While things are a bit different this year, there's a reassuringly wide variety of festive telly to keep you entertained. Here's the best on offer from Channel 4. 

21 December

8 out of 10 Cats Christmas Special - 9pm

The Christmas TV starts early on Channel 4 this year, with the 8 out of 10 Cats special kicking things off on 21 December. 

Taking a temporary break from their unorthodox Countdown interpretation, the Cats team return what they know best - hilarious panel shows. Jimmy Carr once again presents, with team captains Rob Beckett and Katherine Ryan joined by fellow comedians Tom Allen and Maisie Adam, as well as TV personality Scarlett Moffatt and Bake Off's Liam Charles. 

23 December

First Dates Christmas - 9pm

With an incredible 15 seasons in just 7 years, it's fair to say First Dates has been a big hit for Channel 4. For the second Christmas in a row, the show will swap the hustle and bustle of London for a slice of idyllic Hampshire countryside as more singletons from around the country look to find love.

Expect all the usual First Dates shenanigans, with maître d'hôtel-turned presenter Fred Sirieix returning to the show where he made his name.

Christmas Eve

The Great Christmas Bake Off - 7.40pm

The first of two festive GBBO episodes takes place just a few hours before the big day. Matt Lucas returns to present alongside Tom Allen, replacing Noel Fielding who was on paternity leave at the time of filming. 

With high-profile contestants from previous contestants battling it out, look out for a Hollywood handshake or two, while Prue Leith's new blue hair is sure to turn heads. 

Christmas Day

Quentin Blake's Clown - 7.45pm

Quentin Blake's 1980 children's book has been lovingly recreated in this animated short film that debuts on Christmas Day. After being discarded alongside other toys, the protagonist sets off on a mission to find himself and friends a new home. Featuring narration by Helena Bonham Carter.  

Gogglebox: Best of 2020 - 9.10pm

Who knew watching other people watch TV could be so entertaining? Since first being broadcast in 2013, Gogglebox has established a cult following and launched the careers of a number of TV personalities. 

These one-off Christmas Day specials look back at the best moments from the last 12 months. Expect appearances from regulars such as The Siddiquis, Amira and Iqua and Jenny and Lee.  

Boxing Day

Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2020 - 9.05pm

Something of an annual TV tradition, the Big Fat Quiz returns for 2020 with no shortage of potential topics. 

Jimmy Car will once again be presenting alongside regulars Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell. They'll be joined this year by presenter Maya Jama, singer Stacey Solomon and comedians Joe Lycett and James Acaster. 

We're also expecting the now-customary guest appearances from actor Charles Dance, Channel 4 News' Jon Snow and Mitchell Brook Primary School. 

New Year's Eve

The Last Leg of the Year - 9pm

Join Adam, Alex and Josh and a host of celebrity guests as they try to process what happened in 2020 and look ahead to 2021.

New Year's Day

Taskmaster's New Year Treat -  9pm

Fast forward to the first day of 2021 and Taskmaster will return with a one-off festive episode. 

Aptly named a 'New Year Treat', this celebrity special features Strictly's Shirley Ballas, TV presenter Rylan-Clark Neal, actors John Hannah and Nicola Coughlan and Krishnan Guru-Murthy of Channel 4 News. 

Greg Davies returns to the big red chair, assisted by trusty sidekick Alex Horne.

3rd January

The Great New Year Bake Off - 7.45pm

Just before many people are due to go back to work, settle in for the second GBBO special of the Christmas period. 

Four more past contestants compete across three tough baking challenges in an attempt to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. Noel Fielding returns after paternity leave to join fellow host Matt Lucas.

Celebrity Gogglebox: Best of 2020

Celebrity Gogglebox only began airing last year, but has already seen its fair share of iconic moments. Take a look back at the best bits of 2020, featuring the likes of Denise Van Outen, Rylan Clark-Neal, KSI and Shaun Ryder. Expect this to be broadcast at some point during the Christmas period. 

Gogglebox: Festive Special

A Gogglebox Christmas triple header is completed with some of the stars of the show talking us through the top Christmas TV shows around. We're still waiting for confirmation on when this episode will air.
