There’s already a plethora of new Star Wars shows in the works, and the season two finale of The Mandalorian confirmed another one is on the way which will focus on a fan favourite of the franchise.

The Book of Boba Fett will be centred on the bounty hunter, Boba Fett, and his companion in combat, Fennec Shand. But what will this new show be about? We’ve done some investigating to give you everything you need to know. You can also check out all the Star Wars shows and films that are now available on Disney Plus.

From here on out, there will be spoilers for season 2 of The Mandalorian.

When will The Book of Boba Fett air?

The Book of Boba Fett has been confirmed to come to Disney+ on Wednesday 29 December 2021, just making it time for a 2021 release date. We assume that like other flagship Disney shows, episodes will release weekly.

Jon Favreau has confirmed that The Book of Boba Fett will come before season 3 of The Mandalorian, and not run alongside as some had originally speculated. It will be an entirely separate show, so we can most likely assume that Boba Fett won’t be a reoccurring character in the Mando show next season.

This show may also be set for more than one season. The Boba Fett Fan Club Twitter account obtained an image which shows crew members have a sticker which has 'season 1' on it. This could imply that that this if the first of several, and that we may have more of the show to come.

Is there a trailer for The Book of Boba Fett?

Sadly not yet. However, we're expecting to get one soon. It's likely this could drop on Disney+ Day on 12 November, which will also be airing a Star Wars special dedicated to the character of Boba Fett. This will likely include more snippets and information for the new show.

Who are the cast and crew?

The show will star Temuera Morrison in the titular role of Boba Fett. Morrison made his Star Wars debut as Jango Fett in 2002’s Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. He returned to play Jango’s clone son Boba in Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian, and was a prevalent anti-hero throughout the season.

Morrison will be joined by Ming-Na Wen as sniper Fennec Shand, best known for her voice in the animated Mulan films, and for her role as Melinda May in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She made her Star Wars debut back in season 1 of The Mandalorian.

Robert Rodriguez has signed on as an executive producer. Rodriguez previously directed The Tragedy, an episode which prevalently featured both Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. He will be joined by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy.

The Book of Boba Fett plot

Not much has been revealed about the plot of The Book of Boba Fett, but the post-credits scene from The Mandalorian season 2 gives us a bit of a clue on what to expect.

Boba and Fennec stormed Jabba the Hut’s palace on Tatooine, where former majordomo Bib Fortuna was sat on the throne living a similar life to that of Jabba. Fennec set free two Twi’lek woman who were chained to the throne, and then Boba killed Bib Fortuna before taking the throne for himself, with Fennec by his side.

We imagine therefore that Boba Fett is seeking to establish a more powerful presence in the crime underworld on Tatooine, and in the galaxy.

It may be possible that we also learn more about the mystery of Boba Fett returning in the first place, as he was believed to be dead after falling into the Sarlacc Pit during Return of the Jedi.

One major change that may be happening in the lore is the name of Boba Fett's starship. Gizmodo reported that the name 'Slave 1' has been dropped from a Lego listing, and is possibly a sign that Disney is moving away from the name altogether according to designers of the toy, Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and Michael Lee Stockwell.

The ship did appear briefly in The Mandalorian, but was never explicitly named. Currently, the toy name is just 'Boba Fett's starship' Whether a new name will be a put in place remains to be seen.

Robert Rodriguez teased in an interview with The Nerdy Basement that the series will over-deliver on people's expectations, and the brief appearance of the character in The Mandalorian is nothing compared to what we will see in the series. Colour us intrigued.
