Following on from its US launch, the iO6 is now available in the UK.

You can buy it from Boots or Amazon in the UK and from Target in the US. To find out what we thought of it, check out our hands-on review.

What is the Oral-B iO6?

Oral-B announced the iO Series 6 during its presentation at MWC on 28 June.

The iO range was launched in 2020 and represented a huge redesign for Oral-B electric toothbrushes, with a new brush head and fresh features, including an OLED screen that provides the user with brushing feedback and settings information.

But the biggest change is to the way the brush performs. Thanks to the frictionless linear magnetic drive that powers the brush head, the iO cleans with micro-vibrations as well as Oral-B’s traditional oscillation. Brush head redesign

And it's this new design and new cleaning performance that you can get at a (somewhat) more budget-friendly price. It's by no means cheap, but it's the most cost-effective way to get an iO.

There are currently four models in the iO range: the iO Series 6, the 7, 8 and 9.

Where can you buy the iO6?

The Oral-B iO6 is available to buy in the US from Target and in the UK from Boots and Amazon.

How much does the Oral B iO Series 6 cost?

In the US, the iO6 is priced at $149.99. It comes in grey, black and pink. In the UK, the pricing structure is as Byzantine as we'd expect to see for a new, high-end electric toothbrush.

Why is that? Well, first off, the MWC announcement made it clear that the prices would be set by individual countries. In the UK market, an electric toothbrush is given a recommended retail price, which often drops by half to two-thirds after a few months – or even just a few weeks – of being on sale.

So, the iO6 has an RRP of £300 but right now, you can buy it from Boots for £110 in opal grey, pink (which is the model designed for people with sensitive teeth) or black (called the black lava edition for reasons more likely related to marketing than any lava-like qualities).

However, if you head over to Amazon UK, the sensitive iO6 is currently available for £300 and the grey and black model for £110. You can also pick up a two-pack of iO6 brushes (sensitive and black lava) for £420, which, considering their price at Boots, must count as one of the worst bundle deals of all time.

If you'd like an Oral-B iO for the cleaning power, we'd say that buying an iO6 is currently the cheapest way to get one. The other Oral-B brushes will go on sale for Black Friday but we wouldn't expect to see any drop below £100. The lowest price we've seen for any any of the brushes is £120 for the iO7 and you can buy it at this price on Amazon right now.

We do not expect to see the iO6 any cheaper than £110 for six months, at least – and even then, we'd imagine the saving will be small.

In the US, the iO7 is available from BestBuy for $149.99, although the price at Bed, Bath & Beyond comes close: it's $154.39.

The iO8 currently costs $199.99, also from Bed, Bath & Beyond, but if you're a Beyond+ member, you can get it for $159.99. The iO9 is widely available for $299.99.

As we said, in the UK the pricing structure is more complicated. Currently, the Series 7 has an RRP of £400, the Series 8 an RRP of £450 and the Series 9 an RRP of £500. However, these brushes will regularly drop to a third of their RRP for various sales events and holidays.

For example, at the time of writing, you can buy the Oral-B iO Series 7 from Boots in the UK for £120 (somewhat under a third of the RRP). At some stage, this price will jump back up to £400 and the iO8 or iO9 will go on sale.

What features does the iO Series 6 have?

The iO6 has fewer features than the other iO Series brushes, although its feature set is extremely similar to the iO7.
