Nintendo's Direct presentation for October 2021 is confirmed and especially for the next big update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

When is the next Nintendo Direct?

The next Nintendo Direct will take place on Friday, 15 October at 3:00pm UK time (BST). Here are the start times for other locations:

  • US West Coast: 7am PT
  • US East Coast: 10am ET
  • Central Europe: 4pmm CET

Becuase this Direct stream is for a single game, it's half the length of a usual Nintendo Direct so will last around 20 minutes.

Although the game arrived to critical acclaim last year and saved countless people's sanity during lockdown, it has become a little stale recently with a lack of new content.

The good news is that this free update looks to be a big one (20 mins is a long time for a game update so this could be Animal Crossing Version 2.0) and just in time for the clocks to change and cosy nights in. It will be downloadable in November, although Nintendo may announce a more specific release date in the presentation.

You'll have to tune in to find out what the new features and content will be, but we already know that Brewster will return to run The Roost café. Elements like new villagers, bugs and fish seem a sure-fire bet.

What is Nintendo Direct?

Nintendo Direct is the legendary Japanese gaming company's way of communicating with both the press and fans. It's namely for making news announcements for upcoming games.

The announcements can vary, from new gameplay features to new accessory reveals and even release date announcements. Previously, Nintendo used its Direct presentations to unveil the Nintendo Switch, as well as many of its best Nintendo Switch games and best 3DS games.

Occasionally there will be a dedicated Pokémon Direct presentation especially for the franchise, or particular games like Smash Bros and Animal Crossing.
