Following months of rumours, speculation and leaks, Apple’s AirTag tracker was finally revealed at Apple’s Spring Loaded event. Announced alongside the new iPad Pro range, a new Apple TV 4K and redesigned iMacs, the AirTag is Apple’s answer to trackers from the likes of Tile and Samsung, integrated into Apple’s new Find My network.

The disc-like tracker allows you to keep track of valuables like your house keys or backpack, and you could even attach one to your dog thanks to the IP67 water and dust resistance. Using a network of iPhones to track the accessory rather than offering dedicated GPS, the battery lasts an entire year and, unlike some options currently available, the battery is replaceable too.

It’s a great little tracker if you’re invested in the Apple ecosystem, and it’s now available to buy from Apple and third-party retailers. Here’s all you need to know if you’re thinking of buying an AirTag or two in the UK or US.

When was the AirTag released?

As confirmed by Apple at the Spring Loaded event, the AirTag went up for pre-order on 23 April ahead of delivery beginning 30 April 2021.

How much will AirTags cost?

AirTags are quite literally designed to be lost, so don’t expect the usual premium associated with Apple products. In fact, at £29/$29 a pop or £99/$99 for a 4-pack, the AirTag is in line with the popular Tile Mate tracker and Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag at £19.99/$24.99 and £29.99/$29.99 respectively.

There’s also the option to customise the tracker if ordering from the Apple Store at no extra charge.

Where can I buy AirTags in the UK and US?

As you might expect from an Apple product, the AirTag is available to buy at the Apple Store in the UK and US, but it's also available from a range of third-party retailers. It's worth noting that if you want to personalise your AirTag, you have to go to Apple.

If you're in the UK, the following retailers sell the AirTag and its accessories:
