Right now, you can buy a budget laptop for an unbelievably low price: under £100!
It sounds too good to be true, but it isn’t: you can get the Coda 1.2 for £99.97 (delivered) as part of Box’s Mega Laptop Savings event. There are over 30 different deals to choose between, with laptops from top brands such as Asus, Acer, Lenovo and others.
The deals are available until 6 September 2022 – so don’t hang around: if you need a cheap laptop, now’s the time to buy one.
Our pick of the selection is the Asus Vivobook 15 which costs £159.99. That’s still a ridiculously low price for a Windows laptop. Yes, the specifications are fairly basic, with an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. That’s the sort of spec you’d expect from a Chromebook, but even that would cost more.
This comes with Windows 10 in S Mode (which restricts you to installing apps from the Microsoft Store) but you can switch to full Windows 10 Home for free. It also comes with a one-year subscription to Microsoft 365 which would otherwise cost you £59.95, making the effective price of the laptop just £100. In addition, delivery is free – just like the other laptops in the sale, so this is a genuine bargain.
Another great deal is the Asus E410, a good option for students that we rated 4 out of 5 stars when we reviewed it. This is reduced from £249.99 to £139.99 – a £110 saving.
If you’re temped by the cheapest laptop, the sub-£100 Coda 1.2, just bear in mind that the 12.5in screen is relatively small.
Box says that the super-low prices have been caused by various factors, including supply chain delays that have caused many laptops to arrive at the same time. Box.co.uk’s Will Spencer explained that, “Normally, manufacturers proficiently predict ‘run rates’ to bring exactly the right amount of product that is needed to the market. The shift in supply and demand for laptops has had drastic effects on this, resulting in there being around 10 times the normal amount of free stock in the supply chain which in turn is causing retailers to heavily discount stock in order to sell it.”
Box believes that these massive discounts are a real one-off chance to grab a very cheap laptop, as in the coming months shipping costs will increase due to rising fuel prices, which in turn will raise the costs of laptops. Plus, the ongoing chip shortage issues are likely to affect supply, which again will see prices rise.
