LG is launching a new appliance at CES: the PuriCare AeroTower. It’s a three-in-one home appliance that can purify, heat and cool the air. It’s already been an Innovation Awards Honouree at CES 2022.
It’s tall and tapered, with a pincer-like form. The appliance harnesses the Coanda effect to direct airflow, much as Dyson did with its Airwrap styler. Its deep-V shape seems to be integral to the way that airflow is created, with LG calling it “Air Valley” technology.
The AeroTower is bladeless, and delivers 360 degree airflow in three different modes: heating (available only on some models), fan (with 10 different intensity settings) and diffusion, which circulates purified air.
It has a True HEPA filter to capture all particulate matter as small as 0.3 microns but it’s also equipped with UVC light technology to kill off bacteria before they can be circulated around in the air.
Home air quality has been of growing interest to people since the start of the pandemic. The average person usually spends 90% of their time indoors, but ordinarily, that time is split between home and the office, the cinema, shops, restaurants, pubs and bars. Not so over the last couple of years, making consumers more aware of home air quality and willing to invest in products to improve it.
Lyu Jae-cheol, President of LG’s Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, says that the AeroTower has been “designed with today’s home lifestyle trend in mind”.
That’s obviously the case in that it’s clearly design-led and comes in two interior-design-friendly colourways: silver and beige. But also in its extremely quiet, 23dB operating volume in sleep mode.
Bladeless? Design-led? Coanda effect? 3-in-1? These are all concepts that we associate with Dyson’s home air treatment tech. The AeroTower is clearly moving into the space previously dominated by Dyson and it’ll be interesting to see how it measures up.
As yet, LG hasn’t said when it will go on sale, nor how much the AeroTower will cost, but we’ll update this article when we know more.
