Following on from numerous leaks, including a full hands-on video and teaser tweets from company’s official Twitter, Mobvoi has finally, officially announced the tough new TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra.
Rugged smartwatches are a growing breed, with long-standing entries from the likes of Casio, Garmin,
Polar and Nixon, more recently joined by watches made by
Amazfit and now Mobvoi.
The Chinese company bills itself as an AI-centric business but on the international stage, its smartwatches are arguably one of its most well-known exports; offering latest-gen features and impressive value for money, versus the competition.
As the name suggests, the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra is a revision of the Pro 3 line introduced in 2020, running on the same Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform (contrary to rumours about the use of a 4100+ chipset) but it’s paired with Mobvoi’s own dual-processor architecture, for enhanced power management.
Being a Pro, the standout trait of this smartwatch is its dual-layer display – with a full-colour AMOLED panel for actively swiping around the Wear OS user experience it runs on, and an FSTN display for always-on glanceable convenience; more akin to a classic digital watch. With the Ultra, Mobvoi has added a layer of personalisation to this secondary screen too, with the addition of 18 backlight colours to choose from.
While the Ultra still features the same sizeable 577mAh battery as the standard Pro 3 – offering the same quoted 72 hours of use in Smart Mode or up to 45 days in Essential Mode (which reduces functionality and tracking features) – it all comes wrapped up in a hardier MIL-STD-810G-certified housing that’s built to withstand extreme temperatures, humidity and shock, while still retaining IP68 water/dust resistance and swim-proofing too. A compass now joins the Ultra’s feature set as well.
On the fitness and wellbeing side, an upgraded heart rate sensor brings support for AFib irregular heartbeat detection (a feature found the likes of the
Apple Watch Series 6,
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and
Withings ScanWatch), while the watch’s supported workout modes have been expanded to include over 20 in total.
