Although the headphones are delayed, Nothing has confirmed it will finally unveil the Ear 2 wireless earbuds on 27 July.
The event will take place at 2pm BST and will be the first time we see a real-life product from the company founded by Carl Pei previously of OnePlus. The Ear 1, or ‘ear (1)’ going by Nothing’s style, will be the first product in the firm’s ecosystem.
While we’ll have to wait almost a month to see what the headphones look like, Nothing has said “our true wireless earbuds will combine raw beauty and precise engineering for a pure sound experience.”
The event name ‘Sound of Change’ doesn’t give much away apart from perhaps Nothing’s expectation to disrupt the congested wireless earbud market with something different to rivals that will stand out.
Nothing Ear 1 were due to go on sale in June but have been pushed back to ‘later this summer’ while the final touches are sorted out. With the event at the end of July, they may go on sale straight away or soon after in August.
What we do know is they will be available from Selfridges via the Smartech World section. This perhaps implies a premium price.
A delay isn’t ideal but it’s better for Nothing to get it right, especially when you look at the unfinished OnePlus Watch that was so many years in the making.
The question is whether Nothing can compete with the likes of Apple’s AirPods Pro and Sony’s WF-1000XM4 earbuds if the price is indeed in a similar area.
