Carnival Row debuted on Amazon Prime back in 2019, with Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne introducing us to a dark, Victorian-style dystopian world that was shattered by war and racial division. The twist was that it wasn’t the colour of people’s skin that mattered, but rather their species, as fairies and other mythical creatures made up the refugees that found themselves unwanted in their new, human home.
But, with Covid ravaging the production schedules or many shows, when will we get to find out what happened to our heroes Philo and Vignette? Here’s all we know so far about what you should expect from season 2 of Carnival Row. We also have a similar article for Good Omens season 2.
When is the release date for season 2 of Carnival Row?
While it’s true that the last time the show graced our screens was back in 2019, and that Amazon had already commissioned season 2 before the first one aired, there’s still no announced date for the return of the series.
It’s been widely reported that filming began at the end of 2019, only to halt when the pandemic took hold in 2020. We’ve seen multiple accounts stating that filming has since resumed and actually finished up in August 2020.
So, does this mean it will appear any day now? Well, not quite. There is a lot of post-production involved with shows like Carnival Row, especially for the rendering of the large, Victorian-style city and its vast array of magical residents. With that being said, it would be unusual for something like this to take more than a year, so it does seem likely that Amazon may unveil the latest instalments of the show quite soon.
What is the plot of Carnival Row season 2?
Again, there’s little known so far about what will happen in season 2. With events at the end of season 1 seeing (spoilers ahead) a ghetto created in the Burgue, imprisoning all of the fae, including Philo who willingly joins his oppressed brethren alongside Vignette; Jonah and Sophie forming a political alliance that could prove bad news for all non-humans; plus Agreus and Imogen leaving on his ship to find a more tolerant world, things really are poised nicely for season 2.
Will we see a violent uprising by the Fae? Can the new political power hold its grip? Might Agreus sail back with those who would end the ghetto? And will Philo’s noble heritage come to light and see him rise to prominence? So much to look forward to when the show returns.

Who are the cast and crew of Carnival Row season 2?
It’s expected that the cast will remain the same for season 2, with the following reprising their roles:

There have been some changes behind the camera though, with Deadline reporting that series one’s showrunner, Marc Guggenheim, has left the show to concentrate on other projects he has already underway. Erik Oleson will take the helm though, bringing his recent experience from showrunning the third season of Netflix series Daredevil.
Another high-profile absence will be one of the show’s creators, Travis Beacham, who has left the production citing creative differences.

Carnival Row is an Amazon production, so you’ll need to be a subscriber of Amazon Prime to access the Amazon Prime Video service on which it will appear.
