Keeping up with the latest games, social media apps and gadgets can be a nightmare for parents who often know less than their kids about the tech.
While parental control software can be a fantastic tool for limiting screen time and filtering web search results, it tends to be down to parents to decide which apps their kids can use and which they can’t.
Fortunately there’s a useful new app – National Online Safety – which explains what parents need to know about TikTok, Among Us and other popular apps and games.
New content is added regularly, with recent guides including the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
You can search if there’s a specific thing you want to know about, and there are video courses hosted by Myleene Klass which are tailored to different ages so you can watch those which apply to your kids. They offer guidance on what you should be letting your kids do and definitely not do online.
‘Exams’ following the videos help to reinforce the main points from the videos.
The app is designed to be used by teachers and schools, but as a parent the app is completely free to use: you simply need to register with your name and enter the name of your child’s school (for several reasons, including that you’ll get full access to the online safety hub if the school is a member and also to ensure only parents access the information).
