After months of waiting, Amazon Fire TV users will be able to download the HBO Max app on their devices. The release will come tomorrow on 17 November 2020 and will roll out to an estimated 40 million customers using Fire TV devices such as sticks, TVs and tablets.
The update will come automatically through Prime Video channels and will not cost anything extra for customers. Existing HBO Max users will be able to sign is as normal, whilst new subscribers will be able to create an account directly through Amazon Fire TV should they wish.
Delays to launching the service had originally been due to ongoing negotiations between WarnerMedia and Amazon. Roku is another company currently still undergoing conversations, which means that Roku users will still have a little longer to wait for HBO Max – no date on a release has been confirmed.
There is however a workaround for users on Roku who own an Apple device. Recently it was revealed that Roku TV, Roku Streambar, Roku Premiere, and Roku Streaming Stick+ now support AirPlay from any Apple device, meaning that you can stream HBO Max on your phone or laptop and share it to your Roku device to watch films and series on the big screen.
If you’ve not yet got HBO Max, you can sign up for an account on the website for $14.99 per month. Currently the service is only available in the US, but we’ve found a workaround for signing up in the UK.
Your account will grant you access to exciting upcoming shows such as the reunion episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the reunion episode of Friends and the Justice League Snyder Cut. There’s also plenty of classic Warner Bros shows and films to enjoy, as well as acclaimed HBO shows such as Game of Thrones.
