Almost overnight, the coronavirus pandemic stopped dating in its tracks. With millions of people in the UK and around the world unable to socialise with people outside their household, it made meeting someone new and sparking a connection almost impossible.
That began to change as infection rates reduced over the summer, albeit from a safe social distance. However, with lockdown being reintroduced in many European countries, it’s off the cards once again.
Popular dating app Tinder has responded with Face to Face, a new feature which allows people to video call their matches and have a virtual date. Here’s how to get started.
How to video chat on Tinder
For the purpose of this tutorial, we’re assuming you already have a match that you’d like to video call. If that’s not the case, you’ll need to start swiping and wait for someone to match with you.
- Head to the App Store or Google Play and make sure you have the latest version of the app installed
- Open the app and navigate to your matches via the speech bubble icon at the top of the screen
- Under ‘New Matches’ or ‘Messages’, tap the person you’d like to video call
- Tap the Face to Face icon in the top right of the screen, which looks like a camcorder
- In the window that appears, tap the toggle to say you’re interested in a Face to Face and hit ‘Done’
- You’ll now need to ask your match to do the same. It’s only once both parties have agreed to video chat that the option becomes available
- Once they have also indicated their interest, a message will appear saying that Face to Face has been unlocked
- Tap the icon and you’ll be asked to agree to some ground rules
- Preview what the other person will see and then tap ‘Call’
- As with many video calling apps, just tap the red ‘End’ button at any time to end the call
- After the call has ended, you’ll be asked to provide feedback on whether you’d go Face to Face again. Don’t worry, this won’t be shared with your match
