HMD Global’s 22 September Nokia launch event brought us a number of new phones and accessories, including the affordable, capable-looking Nokia 2.4 and Nokia 3.4.
Alongside these new budget devices, HMD officially launched sales of the long-delayed Nokia 8.3 – its first 5G phone, which is also featured in the upcoming Bond movie No Time to Die. We’ve already reviewed the Nokia 8.3, which is a very capable mid-ranger with especially impressive camera chops.
As for the truly new devices, the 22 September launch focused on updates to the company’s entry-level Android offerings, starting with the Nokia 2.4
Nokia 2.4
The phone features a 6.5in 21:9 HD+ display with a dewdrop notch, a depth sensor-supported main camera (a first among the Nokia 2 Series) with AI-boosted portrait shooting, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and the promise of an upgrade to Android 11, and eventually 12, once available.
A large 4500mAh battery, paired with the phone’s modest specs, should keep you going well past a day’s use and HMD includes adaptive battery tech to ensure longevity is preserved over long-term usage too.
Nokia 3.4
Then there’s the Nokia 3.4, the 2.4’s more capable sibling. It bears a resemblance to the 8.3 5G, with that same Nordic design language and the same finish options as the Nokia 2.4 (albeit interpreted into its design in a slightly different manner).
It sports a hole-punch front-facing camera, set into a 6.39in HD+ display, while the back of the phone features a triple-lens setup with an ultrawide sensor in the mix (collectively a first for the Nokia 3 line).
This Android One-based handset runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 460 chip and HMD quotes two-day battery life from the phone.
Nokia Power Earbuds Lite
An addition to HMD’s existing line of true wireless buds, the new Power Earbuds Lite boast 35 hours of playtime (with the charging case), IPX7-rated sweat resistance, touch controls and come in ‘Polar Night’ or ‘Mint’.
Nokia Wireless Speaker
No points for originality when it comes to the name here but the first Nokia Bluetooth 5.0 speaker under HMD promises four hours of wireless playback, an integrated microphone for hands-free calls and can be paired with second speaker to create a wireless stereo pair.
Price and availability
The Nokia 2.4 is set to launch from late September, with the Nokia 3.4 and the Wireless Speaker following in October, while the Earbuds Lite are available now.
The Nokia 2.4 will retail for just £99/€119, while the 3.4 is priced at £129/€159. If you’d rather the 8.3 5G, that starts from £499/€599 and is available to order from today
As for the audio tech, the Lites will retail for £54.99/€59.90, with the Wireless Speaker coming in at £32 (estimated)/€34.90.
