Smart home company Tado is today launching its software update. Tado Care and Protect will be available via the Tado app to anyone with an Auto-Assist subscription.
According to Tado, 30% of worldwide energy consumption is used to heat and cool buildings and it’s something of a company mission statement to make that usage more efficient – hence the new generation of products launched this autumn, which also includes two new pieces of hardware.

Tado Care and Protect monitors home heating around the clock and if it identifies an unusual pattern, alerts the user. This should help you to nip potential problems in the bud. And if not – if the worst happens and you wake up to find you don’t have hot water or heat – it can identify the issue and help you to fix it right away, without having to call out an engineer.
If something has gone wrong with your heating, you’ll get a series of questions so it can identify the problem and give you step-by-step instructions on how to solve it.
If that sounds like a bit too much responsibility, fear not. The company says that almost two-thirds of the time, heating problems can easily be sorted out by the user at home on the same day. And half of those problems can be resolved by simply restarting the boiler.
Often, it’s just a matter of knowing what’s happened, which is why the software can also interpret boiler error codes, identify low water pressure and show you how to refill the system.
Tado Care and Protect has been added as a third skill on Tado’s Auto-Assist from today. The programme already has geofencing and open window detection. Auto-Assist costs £2.99 per month or £24.99 a year. It’ll be available via the app.
Smart thermostat starter kit
Tado also introduced two new products in September. The new Smart Thermostat V3+ Starter Kit is suitable for homes where there’s no wired room thermostat connected to the boiler.
In the box, you’ll get a receiver for the boiler, an internet bridge and a unit you place in the living room or a similar spot that’ll measure temperature and humidity.

New wireless temperature sensors
Tado also recently introduced a new wireless temperature sensor. It has temperature and humidity detectors and will allow you to control a number of smart radiator thermostats.
The idea is that you set the sensor in the spot where you most want to measure the air temperature and humidity (for example, near a child’s bed or in a spot where you’re concerned about damp) and can fine tune the surrounding radiators to get the perfect temperature.
The sensor costs £69.99 / €79.99 and is available from Tado.
