Motorola has announced the Motorola One 5G for the US market, saying it is the first Motorola phone with 5G at under $500, though the company has yet to announce pricing.
It has the same design and specs as the European-launched Moto G 5G Plus, which we reviewed, calling it “a decent all-rounder at a tempting price”. It costs from £299 in the UK, which is around $400 USD.
The One 5G has a 6.7in Full HD+ LCD display with dual selfie cameras in the top left corner as cut outs. That screen has a 90Hz refresh rate, a step above the regular 60Hz that will give it a smoother appearance. Such features are becoming more common on mid-range and even budget phones as the tech trickles down from more expensive models.
It also adds a ‘Ring Light’ around the 5Mp macro camera sensor to illuminate objects close up, something the European Moto G 5G Plus lacks. That lens is one of four on the back, joined by a 48Mp primary, 8Mp ultrawide, and a 2Mp depth sensor. That’s standard fare even for a phone of this price in 2020.
It’s always a busy time for Motorola phones. The Lenovo-owned brand pumps out handsets like nobody’s business, with it expected to announce a follow up to the foldable Razr on 9 September.
