Twitter has confirmed that a tweet from the late Chadwick Boseman’s page announcing the actor’s untimely death has become the most liked tweet of all time.
The star, most famous for his turn as Black Panther in the Marvel film of the same name, died last week after a four-year battle with colon cancer.
He chose in life to keep the diagnosis private, yet still continued to make films during treatment, including Black Panther, Avengers: End Game, and Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods.
At the time of writing, the post had 7.2 million likes, totally eclipsing the 4.3 million likes Barack Obama’s tweet promoting racial justice following the Charlottesville unrest in 2017.

It is perhaps odd that the use of ‘like’ in this instance is for a piece of news millions do not like by definition, but the like figure in the tweet is emblematic of the enormous talent of Boseman, who played the titular Black Panther in Disney’s 2018 Marvel film. He also portrayed icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown on screen.
Black Panther was the first marvel film to cast a black actor in the leading role, have a mostly black cast, and have a black director in Ryan Coogler. It remains the only Marvel film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
