If you can’t get enough of The Witcher then you’ll be excited to learn the game is officially coming to mobile in the form of The Witcher: Monster Slayer.
Developer Spokko, which is part of the CD PROJEKT RED studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, announced the game will hit iOS and Android before the end of the year but with no specific date.
The game is in the vein of AR games like Pokémon Go, and will be a location-based RPG. It’s set before all the events of the existing The Witcher games. It’ll follow the familiar monster hunter style of play, but hopefully with enough Witcher goodness to differentiate it.
“Featuring console-grade visuals, Monster Slayer lets players explore the world around them while tracking, studying, and fighting monsters both new and familiar, using time of day and real-life weather conditions to gain the upper hand,” Spokko said in a press release.
Even though there’s a bloke roaming through the woods in the trailer, you will of course be able to search for and find bad guys to slash up anywhere in the real world.
Spokko says there’ll be ‘story-driven quests’ that are ‘inspired by the Witcher series’ so this may be a loose tie-in rather than a full-on prequel, but that’s to be expected from what will likely be a freemium game.
