Huawei has confirmed that it’s Sound X speaker developed in partnership with Devialet will go on sale in the UK this month.
Devialet products are well-known for being luxurious with a matching high-end price tag. However, the Sound X will retailer for a much more affordable £299 and go on sale 17 August.
Furthermore, customers who order before 30 August will get a free Huawei MatePad T8 tablet worth £99.
The Sound X is somehow the first wireless speaker from Huawei and the firm claims it will “revolutionise high-end acoustic technology with sonorous audio that leaves an enduring, life-altering impression on the listener.”
You might think it’s a rival to the Apple HomePod, Sonos One or Amazon Echo but the Sound X is a little bit different.
Outside of China, it doesn’t support digital assistants like Siri, Alexa or the Google Assistant. So even though there’s a mute mic button and Wi-Fi built-in, you can’t use it for voice control.
It’s possible Huawei could turn it into a smart speaker later in western markets via a software update.
The Sound X features ‘One-Hop audio sharing’ so you can quickly pair your smartphone with it by tapping it on the NFC reader.
Despite the compact size, the speaker packs in two 60W subwoofers and no less than six full-range drivers, too.
It’s not just a regular Bluetooth speaker, according to Huawei though. The Sound X has Devialet‘s patented signal-processing SAM (Speaker Active Matching) technology along with the iconic Push-Push symmetrical structure.
Huawei promises this means it will reproduce audio with extra attention to detail leaving an “enduring, life-altering impression on the listener.”
