Apple has reportedly started surveying select customers on their use of iPhone chargers included in the box (via 9to5Mac).
Questions included what people did with their old iPhone charger after receiving anew one with their new iPhone, targeting customers who must have multiple chargers to gauge the reaction if, as rumoured, Apple does not ship chargers with the iPhone 12.
Options given as to the fate of multiple iPhone chargers included:
- I sold or traded it with my iPhone
- I lost it
- I gave it to a family member or friend
- I still use it at home
- I still use it outside (at work, school, or other places)
- I still have it, but I don’t use it
Apple appears to be considering leaving headphones and the plug part of the charger out of the box in the iPhone 12 in an attempt to reduce e-waste. The survey questions suggests the company thinks that it’s at the stage where many iPhone buyers already have an iPhone and therefore a charger.
Rumour has it that the iPhone 12 line will still ship with a Lightning cable but that if you want a charger you’ll have to pay more, or just use your old one.
It’s less surprising that we might see Apple stop shipping EarPods with iPhones. After four years with AirPods on the market, Apple will be hoping to reduce waste but also encourage even more people to stump up for the wireless version.
