Facebook has announced that it is putting reminders to wear a face mask at the top of the Facebook and Instagram apps in the US.
It comes after a sharp rise in cases in the country as some states relax their lockdown rules and people attempt to get back to normality. But despite pleas from authorities for people to wear face coverings, reports suggest the advice is going widely ignored.
In a brief statement the company said “With the rise in COVID-19 cases in the US, we’re putting an alert at the top of Facebook and Instagram to remind everyone to wear face coverings and find more prevention tips from the CDC in our COVID-19 Information Center.”
That Information Center was announced in March and was launched on the Facebook app in the US, UK, Italy, France Germany and Spain.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC) in the US currently recommends that people “wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.”
