Given the popularity of the iPhone, Apple’s preinstalled Podcasts app has naturally become one of the most-used podcast apps in the world. This means that not many people realise that it’s a complete mess, and not a very good user experience.
That could be set to change if a report form 9to5Mac is to be believed. It says that Apple is going to overhaul the Podcasts app in iOS 14, adding a ‘For You’ section similar to the Apple Music app that’ll suggest new podcasts based on what you currently listen to. It also says a new user profile option will let you see what your mates are listening to also.
Podcast creators are rumoured to be able to offer listeners bonus content within the updated app too. But the report doesn’t address Podcasts’ unintuitive, clunky UX. To be fair to Apple, many podcast apps are confusing with hard-to-find features. Fingers crossed Apple has thought this one through as we’re hoping for more than a lick of paint for the app.
