Prominent leaker Jon Prosser has sent a simple tweet that suggests Apple will retire its famous iOS branding and call the iPhone’s software iPhone OS. This makes sense, as it would bring the software in line with the company’s current branding of iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS.
iPhone OS.

Apple shipped the first few iPhones with iPhone OS before renaming the operating system as iOS in 2010 with the launch of the first iPad. But Apple differentiated the iPad’s software recently by calling it iPadOS, and it seems as though at WWDC Apple might bring the iPhone – its most popular product – in line.
That means we could be about to see the unveiling of iPhoneOS 14 rather than iOS 14. Or, will Apple rename the software entirely? iPhoneOS X, anyone?
We’ll see when WWDC starts on 22 June as a fully online virtual event.
