The mental health and mindfulness app Headspace has started to offer free subscriptions to any and all unemployed and furloughed workers in the UK in addition to a similar offer started last month for the US. Anyone unemployed in either country can sign up here for a free Headspace Plus annual plan that usually costs £49.99.
It follows the company’s similar offer to all NHS workers and US healthcare employees back in March.
The subscription gives access to over 1,200 hours of meditative exercises and mindfulness content focussed on things like sleep, movement and children. Those who take up the free unemployment offer will also be able to use six “Living through unemployment” meditations.
Andy Puddicombe, co-founder, Headspace, said: “Since the very beginning of the COVID pandemic, we’ve been committed to providing Headspace to everyone most in need. We know how devastating unemployment can be, and the stress, anxiety, and health concerns that it can lead to. Obviously, mindfulness cannot change the circumstances of the pandemic, but it can help to provide essential tools for managing stress at this difficult time.”
The company said in a press release that the initiative was part of ‘The Headspace Promise’, an ongoing effort to offer support to people worldwide in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
