Alexa is in just about every smart device out there, but Toshiba’s new TV is the first to offer Amazon’s digital assistant completely hands-free.
The Toshiba WK3 features a far-field microphone in the bezel meaning it can hear you speak commands from across the room. Other smart TV devices have Alexa built-in, but typically via the remote control.
Whether you’ve lost the remote or your hands simply aren’t free, Alexa can perform a range of tasks for you. Whether you need to turn the TV off while carrying a child to bed, or request a wake-up playlist of music.
Here are some examples of commands:
- Alexa, turn on the TV
- Alexa, what’s the weather?
- Alexa, tune to BBC One
- Alexa, play music
- Alexa, play my chores playlist
With Freeview Play, there’s plenty to watch on the WK3 with access to 85 live Freeview channels as well as various on-demand services including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, UKTV Play and CBS Catchup Channels UK.
The Toshiba WK3 is priced just £179 if you’re ok with a 24in size, perfect for the kitchen perhaps, or you can jump up to 32in for £199 if needed.
You can get the WK3 from Amazon and AO with the TV on sale via Very and Currys in the coming weeks.
Bart Kuijten, Commercial Director at Toshiba UK said “Voice control is the fascination of millions around the UK. At Toshiba we want to offer our customers an incredible seamless smart home experience by offering our customers intelligent and responsive technology to fit into their increasingly connected, smart home ecosystems.”
