Oppo has announced the Oppo Ace 2, a follow up to last year’s Reno Ace. Oppo has dropped the Reno branding from the line but confirmed that the Ace 2 will have 40W wireless charging, which is faster than many wired charging solutions from other manufacturers.
This is faster than the 30W wireless charging OnePlus is about to release in its OnePlus 8 devices. OnePlus is owned by the same holding company as Oppo, BBK.
Oppo has called the technology as AirVOOC, part of its wider VOOC fast charge branding, and promises it’ll charge the 4,000mAh battery in 56 minutes. It looks like you’ll need Oppo’s own charging pad to do this though, and regular Qi charging is limited to 10W.
The phone will have 65W SuperVOOC wired charging like the Oppo Find X2, which is phenomenally fast and should be able to charge it from dead to full in about half an hour.
The Ace 2 isn’t quite as high-end as the Find X2 Pro but it comes close, with a Snapdragon 865, 5G connectivity, 6.55in 1080p OLED with 90Hz refresh rate compared to the 120Hz of the X2 Pro. It also packs in up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage (there are a few SKUs).
It also has quad-rear cameras led by a 48Mp sensor.
The original Reno Ace stayed pretty much a China-only phone, meaning it shipped without Google Play services. If the Ace 2 remains a China exclusive then it could mean the same for the Ace 2, so bear this in mind if you are looking to import the phone.
The Ace 2 starts at 3999 yuan, which is £450, and will ship beginning 20 April.
