Update: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is available now on PS4 for £20/$30, but will only arrive on PC and Xbox One on 30 April.
We’re getting a surprise drop of a some new Call of Duty that’s not such a surprise any more, after pretty comprehensive leaks have revealed that Activision is about to release a remastered version of Modern Warfare 2’s single-player campaign.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Campaign Remastered, to give it its full name, has reportedly been sitting on Activision’s virtual shelves for some time, waiting for a good excuse for a release – and presumably the ongoing coronavirus crisis seemed like a good excuse to drop some new single-player content.
To be clear, this is just the game’s campaign mode, so there’ll be no multiplayer support – though you can always jump into the new free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone if you fancy that. It’s also only a remaster, rather than a top-to-bottom remake in the style of last year’s full Modern Warfare redo. So expect the exact same game as in 2009, but with shinier 4K graphics and improved textures, animations, and HDR lighting for modern consoles and PCs.

The Modern Warfare 2 remaster has been leaked from top to bottom by this point. The above trailer appeared yesterday, and since then we’ve found out the download size (45GB), and even seen some players post full playthroughs of the game after it leaked early onto the German PlayStation store.
Of course, Modern Warfare 2 is famous for more than just being a sequel to Modern Warfare. It also featured what remains Call of Duty’s most infamous mission yet: No Russian. This sequence, early in the game, sees the player’s undercover agent storm through an airport, murdering civilians, in an attempt to pose as a terrorist.
