OnePlus has confirmed the OnePlus 8 series will launch on Tuesday 14 April. Given the coronavirus and worldwide lockdown, the launch will happen via livestream on that date at 11am EST, which is 4pm UK time.
The official news comes a day after alleged new colours of the cheaper OnePlus 8 leaked.
We expect there to be a OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro as per the rumours, and given the fact the current newest OnePlus phones are the 7T and 7T Pro.
In a statement, the company confirmed that at least one of the phones will have a 120Hz display, before adding, ‘Coupled with it are a handful of other new and exciting technologies that will elevate the OnePlus flagship experience to a new level.’ Rumours suggest these could be wireless charging and IP68 water resistance, two high-end features that OnePlus phones have so far lacked.
If this happens though, we expect the price of these phones to rise ever closer to the Samsung Galaxy devices OnePlus used to dramatically undercut.
“With the OnePlus 8 series, we’re excited to introduce our most powerful and beautiful smartphone series ever, combining blazing fast 5G capabilities, specially engineered high refresh rate displays and OnePlus’ signature powerful performance setup. The OnePlus 8 series will bring a truly ‘burdenless’ experience to all our users, who have come to expect nothing but the best all-around flagship smartphones from us,” said Pete Lau, Founder and CEO of OnePlus.
“No detail is too small for us, as OnePlus always strives to deliver the best user experience possible with our premium flagship devices.”
Both phones will presumably also have 5G, then, and are likely to use Qualcomm’s high end Snapdragon 865 chip.
OnePlus will stream the announcement on its website and on YouTube.
