UK mobile operator O2 has said that from the end of this week it will be giving all its pay monthly customers unlimited domestic calls, no matter their plan. That means eligible customers will have no cap on voice calls to any UK landline or mobile line for the duration of the offer.
O2 said the offer excludes enterprise and small business customers but is likely to remain in place for everyone else for the foreseeable future as the UK continues to be in lockdown over Covid-19.
The change comes as part of the UK government’s initiative with mobile operators and Ofcom to help the public weather the unprecedented disruption to daily life that the coronavirus pandemic has brought on the country.
CEO of Telefonica UK (O2) Mark Evans said, “At O2 we have long-established policies in place to support our customers, and right now, digital connectivity is more important than ever as we connect our customers to vital services and their loved ones.”
O2 had already scrapped data fees for 23 support websites to help people access vital information free of charge, but the opening of unlimited calls to all UK numbers is an excellent scheme that should help many millions stay in touch with loved ones at this difficult time.
