The Apple Watch is considered one of the most polished smartwatches on the market but it lacks a few features that competing devices have. New rumours and leaks suggest Apple is readying some big updates for watchOS 7 and the Apple Watch Series 6 that could see big change.
According to two reports from 9to5Mac, Apple will add blood oxygen level reading, sleep tracking and watch face sharing along with several other tweaks and updates.
Sleep tracking has long been a feature that the Apple Watch has lacked, while competing wearables from Fitbit and Samsung to name just two have had it for years. One issue with incorporating sleep tracking to the Apple Watch has been the product’s less than excellent battery life – most users charge it at night.
If sleep tracking is added to older Apple Watch models and not just the newer Series 6, then users will have to get used to slapping their Watch on the charger every morning, as wearing it at night will obviously be necessary to use the tracking feature.
Apple previously accidentally leaked its upcoming sleep tracking feature with a mention of the ‘Sleep app’ in a listing page for the Watch’s alarm app.
With the other rumour that Apple might add blood oxygen level monitoring, the Apple Watch will continue to become a medically excellent device to own. Even though its ECG feature is not turned on worldwide, it is recognised as a superior monitoring tool for the consumer wearable market in comparison to other brands.
Based on iOS 14 code findings, the rumours also indicate Apple will let you share your custom watch faces with other Watch owners. While Apple doesn’t let you build faces from scratch, you can adjust complications and colours of preset faces currently. Apple will also reportedly add a tachymeter to some watch faces, further mirroring the design and functionality of analogue watches.
