Logitech’s new vertical mounting StreamCam features Full HD video capture at up to 60fps, AI-enabled face-tracking, and USB-C connectivity. At £139/US$169 it’s likely to pique the interest of millennial and Gen Z social media content creators and aspiring influencers who don’t want to dish out loads on a production set-up.
The StreamCam is compatible with Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) and XSplit so users can broadcast directly to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook Live and Twitch.
The camera works with Logitech’s updated Capture software – the creative cockpit to customize camera settings and how recordings should look.
You can combine separate feeds through Capture too. For instance, if you’re a guitarist, you could overlay one vertically-oriented StreamCam feed that focuses on your finger-picking style onto another StreamCam feed that captures you playing in full view, landscape mode. Gamers can combine StreamCam footage with screen recordings too.
Capture lets you set up StreamCam’s impressive smart image stabilization and AI-face tracking features. The latter uses facial recognition to keep the subject centre-frame.
With StreamCam, Logitech responds to a social media landscape that has embraced vertical video – ever since Snapchat popularized the format in 2011. Today Facebook and Instagram accept 9:16 and 4:5 video ratios, while YouTube can play vertically filmed videos in portrait mode without letterboxing. TikTok only accepts vertical video.
The StreamCam is available in white or graphite with a fabric-covered front – similar to what you might see on a Google Nest Mini. It ships with a tripod mount and a monitor mount.
