CES and Sony have gone hand in hand with each other for decades, with highlights including the Japanese company’s unveiling of the pioneering U-matic video system at the convention back in 1971. 2020 wasn’t quite as exciting, unveiling a small number of TVs and the PS5 logo, but we’re expecting bigger things this year.
Here’s all you need to know about Sony’s CES 2021 event, including how to watch and what might be announced.
When is the Sony CES 2021 press conference?
Sony’s CES 2021 conference is set to kick off today, Monday 11 January at 17:00 EST.
If you’re watching the UK, that means you’ll have to stay up until 22:00 GMT tonight to watch live. That does sound late, but it’s actually a little better than the 1am GMT kick-off last year!
Where can I watch the Sony CES 2021 press conference live stream?
With CES taking an all-digital approach to this year’s showcase, it should come as no surprise that you’ll be able to watch Sony’s announcement from the comfort of your own home.
Sony’s new digital event platform is now live, with the full press conference streamed live around the world. You can watch directly via the Sony event site, and it’s also expected to be streamed on
We’ll try and embed the video before the event kicks off, so bookmark this page and head back later today to see what Sony has planned for CES 2021.
What to expect from Sony at CES 2021
Sony might not have had an exciting CES 2020, with a few TV announcements and the reveal of the PS5 logo which, let’s be honest, was a simple change from ‘4’ to ‘5’, but the release chaos of the console in November showcased just how popular it is.
It’s likely we’ll hear more about how well the console has sold during the CES 2021 announcement considering that Sony has confirmed that the event will feature Sony Interactive Entertainment execs. It’s also possible that Sony could announce new PS5 games or release dates, but given the fact CES is traditionally a hardware-focused show, it’s not very likely.
Console news aside, it’s likely that we’ll see new audio products at CES 2021. The hugely popular
Sony WH-1000XM4 over-ear headphones were only launched a few months ago so it’s unlikely we’ll see a refresh of those, but it has been a while since Sony released its
WF-1000XM3 wireless earbuds. If there’s anything ripe for an update, it’s those.
The WF-1000XM3s are regarded by many as some of the best wireless earbuds you can buy right now, and it’s not too much of a stretch to see Sony add some of the popular features of its new over-ear cans – including Speak-to-Chat and adaptive noise cancellation – to its high-end earbuds.
CES is traditionally where manufacturers announce new TVs, so it’s almost certain that we’ll see some shiny new displays on offer from Sony during the press conference – possibly 4K@120Hz to complement the PS5. The company has already
revealed the Sony Bravia XR 2021 TV range ahead of CES, and it’s expected to fully showcase its first consumer-focused microLED TV at the event next week too – just don’t expect it to be cheap!
