Samsung could update its true wireless Galaxy Buds in the new year when it is set to unveil its Galaxy S11 phone series. That is backed up by an FCC filing that appears to show an image of the new Galaxy Buds 2 with a label suggesting a larger battery capacity.
As reported by Droid Life, model number SM-R175 cropped up on the FCC site with the below image:
As you can see, it lists the battery capacities at 300mAh for the earbuds and 600mAh for the cradle (meaning case). 300mAh is likely to be 150mAh for each bud, up from 100mAh each on the current set, and the 600mAh case is a step up from the first gen’s 400mAh.
In our review of the Buds we bemoaned the average battery life, so hopefully this filing is proof that Samsung has addressed this flaw. The fit and sound of the Buds weren’t bad, and it’s quite hard to update such small earphones – though Apple has proved that it’s possible with the very superior AirPods Pro.
Given Samsung only waited six months to update the Galaxy Watch Active with few changes, the Galaxy Buds 2 might be more similar to the first gen than Samsung fans might hope.
