Oppo’s next flagship Android smartphone will use the Snapdragon 865 processor according to Oppo VP of Sales Alen Wu. The announcement was made on stage as Oppo appeared as a partner at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii.
Wu did not say which phone he was referring to, but it won’t be the Reno 3 Pro 5G, a handset teased by Oppo VP of Marketing Brian Shen last week on Twitter:

Wu confirmed the Reno 3 Pro 5G will run the Snapdragon 765. The lower-powered Snapdragon 765 and 765G actually both have 5G integrated and will hopefully pave the way for more affordable 5G devices. What a tangled web phone makers weave these days.
Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 865 does not have integrated 5G, but ships with an X55 5G modem if required by manufacturers. Despite 5G not being integrated, Qualcomm has said that all 865 phones will have 5G, so it’s just not clear what phone the company is referring to.
If there is a Reno 3 Pro without 5G, it’s not clear what chip it will use.
Oppo moves fast in the mobile world, with its Reno and Reno 2 lines released in the last year. With the possibility of Reno 3 on the way with the Snapdragon 865, the company is fast moving in to fill the gap – and huge opportunity – left by Huawei’s inability to ship new phones with Google services.
