Successor to Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite, Xiaomi’s Mi A3 has not yet officially made its way to the UK yet, having launched in Europe earlier this year at €249 (64GB)/€279 (128GB).
It is possible to get hold of Mi A3 in the UK, however, with Amazon currently listing the 128GB version for £166, but GearBest has the best Black Friday deal of all at just £133.45. That’s less than half its retail price, and comes with free shipping to the UK in 10-18 working days.
To unlock that super-low price you’ll need to enter the coupon code GBA312802 at checkout.
Allowing for import duty, which may be requested by Customs upon arrival in the UK, this remains an astonishing deal and much lower than what we can expect to pay when Mi A3 does eventually launch here.
(Import duty is calculated at 20% of whatever value is printed on the shipping paperwork, sometimes with an additional admin fee of around £11. All in, the most you’ll pay is about £160.)
Xiaomi’s Mi A3 is particularly notable for its inclusion of Android One rather than Xiaomi’s own MIUI user interface, a custom version of Android that includes some of the company’s own apps, sometimes in place of Google’s. Android One is in essence plain Android, and the first to receive security and operating system updates, with no bloatware slowing things down.
But more than just the software, this is a very decent mid-range Android phone, packing the Snapdragon 665 processor and a generous 4,030mAh battery into a gorgeous body that is finished with a 6.088in (19.5:9 HD+) AMOLED display. The cameras impress, with Mi A3 the first Android One phone to feature a triple-lens camera – and this one has a 48Mp Sony sensor headlining.
Think of Mi A3 as Xiaomi’s answer to the Pixel 3A. It’s not infallible – lacking, for example, NFC and a full-HD screen – but for the money, and especially at this reduced price, it is difficult to find fault.
