Oppo is continuing its confident march into the UK smartphone market with one of its cheaper handsets, the A9 2020. The phone costs £219 but manages to pack in an impressive spec sheet with quad cameras and a 5,000mAh battery.
While phones are getting more expensive at the high end (up to £2,000 thanks to the Galaxy Fold), it’s worth remembering that you can pick up a hell of a lot of phone for around £200-£300 too and the A9 2020 looks to be a testament to that.
It has a 6.5in LCD capped at 720p but this is one of the few giveaways of its affordability. With a Snapdragon 665 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and three slots that let you use two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time, we can’t call this phone light on features. It can record 4K video at 30fps, which for context is the same as the Pixel 4 and 4 XL.
Add to that dual stereo speakers, a basic night mode for the cameras, traditional capacitive fingerprint sensor on the back and a headphone jack, and there’s little missing apart from the obvious things at this price like waterproofing and wireless charging – features that you also don’t get on the £699 OnePlus 7T Pro.
The Oppo A9 2020 in green or purple is on sale now in the UK from Carphone Warehouse and EE.
