Google Go, the company’s stripped back search app for Android, is now available worldwide. First trialled in Indonesia and India, the tiny 7MB app is a great streamlined version of Google search that can run on any device running Android Lollipop 5.0 or higher.
Google claims the app is optimised to save up to 40% less data when fetching results and has features like text to speech and Google Lens built right in. It’s designed to be the hub to the rest of the internet for people with lower powered devices in areas with poorer mobile internet connections and is clear and easy to use, with search results loading as you type.
Tapping in the search bar gives you a live list of high traffic search terms so you can see what’s trending too. If you don’t have much storage space on your phone or a low data plan, download it right now!
Along with this app Google also has YouTube Go, Gmail Go and Gallery Go apps and even a low-power version of the Android OS itself, unsurprisingly called Android Go. It’s cool to see Google Go become available worldwide though and shows that apps don’t have to take up a ton of space to offer useful utility.
