There’s plenty of innovation happening with TVs right now, but if you want the ultimate quality, OLED is still king. And Panasonic’s new GZ2000 raises the bar yet again, ticking all the boxes for those after a top-of-the-line model.
Panasonic has a wealth of experience in OLED TVs, first demonstrating a 4K OLED TV back in 2013. Now, in 2019, the GZ2000 is the best yet, delivering outstanding picture and sound quality.
Ultimate picture quality
It does this by using a custom-made Professional Edition OLED panel which has been tuned by Hollywood colourist Stefan Sonnerfeld for the best possible colour accuracy. Sonnerfeld has worked on some of the biggest hits, including Wonder Woman and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and uses Panasonic’s OLED screens as reference monitors for upcoming blockbusters.
The GZ2000, then, is the reference-grade TV you can put in your own home so you can see films with the exact colours the filmmakers intended.
A crisp 4K image on an OLED TV is impressive enough, but the GZ2000 supports all HDR formats including HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. That means you don’t have to choose one or other standard as you do with many OLED TVs.
As well as producing a much higher average brightness in HDR content, the GZ2000 is able to handle the fast transitions in sports and action movies where brightness and contrast are changing constantly. It’s able to do this because it has the new HCX Pro intelligent processor.
This controls the OLED panel, analysing and optimising the colour and contrast of each pixel so you see the most cinematic image, frame by frame. Even when brightness changes rapidly during a scene, the HCX Pro has the power to keep up, always displaying accurate colours.
Ultimate sound
The amazing picture is complimented by audio that’s just as immersive. The GZ2000 is the world’s first TV to have upward-firing speakers which work with the built-in Sound Blade (which sits beneath the screen) to produce convincing surround sound where bullets whizz past you and you can hear shards of shattered glass flying in different directions.
The system supports Dolby Atmos, for powerful audio that fills the room and puts you in the centre of the action. It’s tuned by Technics and uses Technics’ JENO Engine to achieve a refined, accurate soundstage that matches the visuals. There’s an optional subwoofer which is designed to enhance bass, too.
Smart design
As you might expect from a flagship TV, there’s plenty of smart features which start with Panasonic’s new My Home Screen 4.0.
There’s supremely easy access to on-demand video from Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video as well as connected devices and, of course, live TV from Freeview. Freeview Play allows you to easily catch up on shows you might have missed from a single, simple-to-use interface.
My Home Screen 4.0 lets you customise the interface and layout and even add your most-watched TV channels to the home screen.
For hands-free control, there’s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. When paired with a compatible device equipped with one of these digital assistants, you can operate the GZ2000’s key functions with your voice, such as changing channel, opening YouTube and adjusting volume.
With an imperceptible bezel, the only thing you’ll see are the vibrant images: no distractions. Thoughtful design choices such as the central stand mean you won’t need an extra-wide TV bench to accommodate either of the two screen sizes, 55 inch and 65 inch TV.
