Following a lengthy beta period and a hefty day-one patch,
Fallout 76 is now available to play on
Xbox One and
PC. The online multiplayer game gives you the opportunity to explore the post-apocalyptic world of Appalachia with your buddies, scavenging and crafting your way to greatness.
But with such a huge map, there has to be a way to travel around quickly, right? Thankfully, there is. Here’s how you can fast travel in Fallout 76.
How to fast travel in Fallout 76
The good news is that the fast travel system implemented in Fallout 76 is incredibly simple – the issue is that it isn’t highlighted when you begin playing (if it was, we completely missed it!). There is a catch though; like
fast travelling in Red Dead Redemption 2, there’s a monetary cost that comes with fast travelling.
To fast travel in Fallout 76, simply open the map and select any location you’ve already visited. Despite not offering a ‘fast travel’ button like other games, selecting any previously-visited location should provide you with the option to fast travel there.
As mentioned, it’ll cost a handful of caps with the specific price dependent on how far you’re travelling, so it’ll probably be a good idea to use it sparingly – at least while you’re finding your feet in Appalachia.
It’s not a general rule though. While you have to pay to fast travel to most locations in Fallout 76, there are a handful of places that you can fast travel to, completely free of charge. The first is, rather unsurprisingly, your C.A.M.P. You can set this up anywhere in West Virginia, go out on a scavenging hunt travelling far and wide and quickly return once you’re over-encumbered.
While you can place your C.A.M.P. anywhere, we’d recommend finding a spot near a vendor, allowing you to fast travel and re-stock on ammo and vital provisions that’ll help you survive the post-apocalyptic world completely free of charge.
As well as your C.A.M.P., you can also fast travel to your co-op friends and their respective C.A.M.P.s too. It’s certainly a handy feature, especially when you consider just how large the open-world map is.
It provides the ability to leave your co-op buddy, fast travel home, drop off your scavenged materials and fast travel back to them within minutes without spending any caps, and we think it’s a system that Fallout 76 players will utilise as more gamers become aware of it.
