BlizzCon 2017 was as popular as ever, and Blizzard’s opening ceremony didn’t disappoint either. The company announced a flurry of updates to its roster of games, including a new Overwatch character and the introduction of
World of Warcraft Classic, but the biggest news was the introduction of the seventh World of Warcraft DLC: Battle for Azeroth.
Here, we discuss everything we know about World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth DLC including the release date and what you can expect in terms of gameplay.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth DLC release date
Following the announcement of the DLC with a four-and-a-half-minute cinematic trailer at BlizzCon 2017, Blizzard confirmed that Battle for Azeroth would be released on 14 August 2018.
The date came and went, and the DLC is
now available to purchase. If you want something a little more special to mark the occasion, the
Collector’s Edition (£89.99) features a wide array of goodies for any serious fans out there.
This includes a double-sided storybook, containing two new novellas depicting the Burning of Teldrassil from the point of view of both the Alliance and the Horde, a double-sided Mark of Allegiance displaying the Horde and Alliance symbol on either side so you can proudly show off your faction, along with the Collector’s Edition Digital Soundtrack, a game key and several in-game items for various Blizzard games.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth DLC gameplay
Most of the curiosity is focused on exactly what Battle for Azeroth DLC will offer.
The first change is a raised player cap, allowing players to level up to 120 in the new continents – an increase of 10 compared to the 110 cap in the sixth DLC, Legion. Oh, and all new characters will start at level 20 instead of level 1, too.
There’s also a change to the PvE/PvP rules in each realm, which should make it a little more enjoyable for those that want the PvE experience. Why? PvE will become the default in every realm, with players able to manually toggle PvP if they want to attack each other.
Two new locations will also be introduced in the upcoming DLC – Kul Tiras, one of the seven human kingdoms, and Zandalar, the motherland of Azeroth’s trolls. The two locations are split into three zones with a faction-specific capital found in each.
The DLC also see’s the introduction of Island Expeditions, a new game mode where you and a group of friends race against opposing players to collect different island’s resources to help fuel the war effort. The mode is said to include an “ever-changing array of enemies, environments and objectives” that should keep players entertained for some time.
There’s also a new artefact coming called the Heart of Azeroth, a necklace that can utilise the power of Azerite – the essence of the world soul. It’s similar in function to the artefact power in the Legion DLC and can be gathered normally from playing the game.
