Netflix is undeniably one of the
best streaming services around, but some features have been annoying customers for years. The good news is that the streaming giant has finally provided a way to disable them, so here’s how to stop autoplay previews and next episodes.
We’ve all been there, browsing the Netflix interface trying to find something to watch. You start reading the blurb and you’re hit with a wall of sound and motion – a trailer we never asked for. Or the next episode of a series starts while the credits are still rolling.
Now it’s up to you whether you want them on or off.
Stop Netflix autoplay previews
To stop autoplaying previews (trailers if you like), you’ll need to
log into your Netflix account from a web browser. If you use another device, like a phone or tablet, then you won’t be able to access the settings.
- Once you’ve logged in, use the menu in the top right corner of the interface and select ‘manage profiles’.
- Select the profile you want to adjust the settings for (different users can have different autoplay options).
- Now untick the box under Autoplay controls that says ‘Autoplay previews whilst browsing on all devices’. Hit save when you’re done.
Stop Netflix autoplay next episode
Not everyone likes to binge TV shows, or you might want to avoid kids watching endless episodes of a program. Luckily, you can choose to disable autoplay next episode.
The method is the same as previews (above) so head into your account, manage profiles and untick the box that says ‘Autoplay next episode in a series on all devices’.
Note: There might be a delay when changing these settings so you can force them to take effect by switching to another profile and then back again.
Turn off Netflix autoplay by Account Settings
the Netflix website and sign in to your account (if you’re not signed in already). As before, click the menu dropdown at the top right but this time select Account.
On the page, under the My Profile section, click ‘Playback settings’.
There are then options for ‘Autoplay next episode in a series on all devices’ and ‘Autoplay previews while browsing on all devices’.
Each should have a tick in it. Click to remove the tick, then hit Save.
