What does the Huawei Watch 2 look like?
In terms of design, the Huawei Watch 2 is a little different to the fashion-focused first-generation Huawei Watch. While the original was based on the design of a standard high-end watch, the Watch 2 features a sporty vibe with a metal body and vibrant, plastic wrist straps. Featuring a double chrome design on the 45mm circular watch face, the Watch 2 is a blend of high-end premium design with the durability and comfort of a fitness tracker.
Of course, those that yearn for a more traditional look can opt for the Huawei Watch 2 Classic, which more closely resembles the first-generation Watch with a metal body and high quality leather straps. The Watch 2 Classic may be the go-to choice for some, but it’s worth bearing in mind that it doesn’t feature everything that the standard edition does, but we’ll come to that in more detail below.
The Watch 2 straps are interchangeable, with black and orange straps available at launch for the standard version. What is unclear at the moment is whether these will be compatible with standard watch straps, or whether it’ll require a Huawei-manufactured strap.

Features and specifications
So, what makes the Huawei Watch 2 stand out from the sea of smartwatches and fitness trackers on the market in 2017? It aims to offer more of a premium fitness tracking experience when compared to other trackers by offering a built-in fitness companion that’ll coach you during your workout. The Watch 2 features several built-in workouts, from cardio to fat burn, but also offers the ability to create your own workouts via the Huawei Wear app to achieve your personal goals.
Then, during your workout, the Watch 2 will provide you with information including stage guidance, speed guidance, lap reminders and, of course, goal process reminders. What separates the Watch 2 from the crowd is the ability to offer real time heart rate zones, allowing you to keep an eye on your heart rate throughout your workout. If your heart rate is too high, the Watch will let you know to scale it back a little bit.
Once you’ve finished your workout, the Watch will provide you with a number of statistics including a VO2Max assessment, a training effect evaluation and recovery time advice. It’ll also break down the various parts of your workout, with all the info available from the accompanying smartphone app.
Of course, it’s not all about fitness. The Huawei Watch 2 runs Android Wear 2.0, which brings with it standalone support meaning it can be used when not connected to a smartphone. How? The Watch 2 boasts 4G connectivity alongside Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS support, allowing you to use the Watch and even make calls without being near your smartphone. The Watch 2 boasts its own built-in app store for browsing and installing apps, and even offers 2GB of built-in storage with support for downloads via Google Play Music.
However, while the standard Huawei Watch 2 features 4G connectivity, the same can’t be said for the Huawei Watch 2 Classic – although it does still feature Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Of course, along with the above, it’ll offer all the bells and whistles of Android Wear 2, including Google Assistant. To find out more about what Android Wear 2.0 offers, take a look at our explainer:
