This time last year a global battery recall was underway for more than 100,000 HP laptops. Now in January 2018 it’s again recalling laptop batteries that are at risk of overheating.
The laptops in question include:
- HP Probook 640 G2
- HP Probook 645 G2
- HP Probook 650 G2
- HP Probook 655 G2
- HP Probook 640 G3
- HP Probook 645 G3
- HP Probook 650 G3
- HP Probook 655 G3
- HP ZBook 17 G3
- HP ZBook 17 G4
- HP ZBook Studio G3
- HP x360 310 G2
- HP Pavilion x360
- HP Envy m6
- HP 11 Notebook PC
If you have one of the models listed above, you should download the HP Battery Validation Utility to see whether it is affected. The tool takes less than 30 seconds to run.
If your laptop is affected you will be prompted to download a BIOS update, which puts the laptop in Battery Safety Mode and allows you to bypass the battery and use it safely when plugged into the mains. Reboot your laptop following the update.
You will then be able to have your battery replaced by an authorised technician at no cost.
