There are so many TV channels, streaming services and platforms out there now that it can be extremely hard to know where to go to watch the best TV shows. With so many choices, subscriptions and prices, we explain how and where to watch the best TV series including Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Westworld.
Long gone are the days of popping down the high street to choose a DVD to rent, then forget to return. Whether it’s via your smart TV, games console, tablet, media streamer or other gadget, there is more content at your fingertips than you could possibly even consume. We browse the online streaming and rental services so you don’t have to so you can find out where to watch the best TV shows online.
What subscription do I need?
Some streaming services require a monthly fee to access the content and once you’re in you watch anything you want as many times as you want. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are the two big players each charging £5.99 and £7.99 per month respectively.
In Amazon’s case, you can watch anything with a Prime banner on it once you subscribe but some other content is for purchase or rent only. Many of the big name services offer content to purchase or rent only including iTunes, Google Play, and TalkTalk TV (formerly Blinkbox).
Meanwhile, Sky has various ways of watching things even if you’re not a traditional satellite contract subscriber. It has Now TV (which includes access to great TV, films, and sport) and the Sky Store (for films) which can be accessed and used by anyone on a range of devices.
If you’re going to buy or rent a film or TV series it’s worth browsing all the services to find the cheapest price. Also bear in mind what device you want to watch on as services will only support a limit amount and whether you can do things like download the content for offline viewing.
We’ve stuck with how to watch these shows in the UK, and some of them are exclusively available in the UK on some services. If you want to access them from outside of the UK you could use a VPN like TotalVPN to change your virtual location. Find out more about VPNs and which are best in our best VPNs round-up.
